Crikey, I need a bit of a hand here

Don’t worry, there are people who can help

Where to get support

If you're unsure about how some key aspects of the home insurance underwritten by IAG work, or want to talk to someone about how to decide on the Sum Insured for your home, there are people who can help.

Get help from your home insurance provider

Click on the links below to contact your IAG home insurance provider.

Get help with estimating the likely cost of rebuilding

If you'd like to source a valuation from a building, quantity surveyor or valuation professional, you can use the links below to find a professional near you. If you have extensive retaining walls at your home, you may need to engage a Chartered Professional Engineer to get an accurate valuation for these.

Note IAG does not guarantee the appropriateness or correctness of any estimated costs or valuations you receive from any source.

A quantity surveyor or licensed builder may be able to assist with arriving at an estimate of the likely cost of rebuilding your home, either by helping you to answer questions such as the age, size and construction materials used, or by providing a more detailed assessment. Many builders may choose not to offer this service, however, as it may not be their area of expertise. If they do offer it, it is likely that a fee for service will apply. You should discuss this in advance.

Extra support for people aged 50+

IAG has partnered with SeniorNet to offer people aged 50+ guidance on how to use need2know.org.nz and better understand their home insurance.

Help with how to navigate this website, use tools such as the online calculator and watch videos on getting to know your home is available through courses currently on offer at SeniorNet branches across New Zealand.

To find out if tuition is available in your area, call into your local branch, telephone: 0800 739 467 or visit www.seniornet.org.nz.

Legal advice

You may wish to discuss your Sum Insured policy with your lawyer; particularly if there is any part of your policy you do not understand, or if your property involves complex issues such as body corporate or cross lease ownership. If you don't already have a lawyer, you can use the Law Society's 'Find a Lawyer' search function in the Property Law section . Please visit www.propertylawyers.org.nz.
